CHARACTER INTERPRETATION
» Appearance: A shy guy by nature, he was once more of a nerd and often picked on. Simon has since buffed up, though he still retains a very shy persona. He's quiet and intense. While his build is muscular, he's average height with dark hair and blue eyes.
» Suitability: n/a
» Orientation: Straight. He's only seen attracted to females, having dated Lucy in his stay at the psychiatric unit and then later dating Alisha.

» Personality:
At the beginning Simon is a quiet, shy boy who had been arrested for arson. He wasn't the most stable nor entirely great with people. All he really wanted was friends. How Simon got to where he is is because he wanted to be friends with a childhood friend who had snubbed him. He even gets mad at Nathan and tells him that he just wanted to be their friend.

Ultimately that is a large part of who he is and who he becomes. He tells Lucy that he finally feels like he belongs somewhere which is life changing for him. In the beginning it's very subtle. He goes from being picked on by Nathan constantly to first being defended by Kelly. But there's something else that deeply knits all of them together-- and it's not just killing their probation worker.

The group are all struck by lightening during a freak storm. It happens all through the city, and slowly it's revealed that certain people develop powers. Kelly was the first, but Simon's was quick to develop as well. He has the power of invisibility which was fitting since he never seemed to fit in and often went unnoticed. He was the shy, nerdy kid that didn't talk much and was overlooked.

This freak accident sparked a lot of things though. Their first probation worker went insane, trying to kill them. They end up killing him and having to hide his body, not once but twice. Most of the show is kind of like that. They get into these zany predicaments, and often it's Simon who gets them out, being the smartest out of the group. He also is into sci-fi and tends to know various tropes of what they run into.

He's also quite observant and sees things for what they are. He notices things about people, even if he's not that good at being social. He's terrible at lying, and often comes off very stiff. But he's almost too genuine, hence why his lying is so bad. But he does start to come out of his shell eventually from actually having friends and having fun. When Alisha starts to take notice of him (due in part to how close she becomes to future!Simon), she apologizes for being a bitch. Simon replies, "Sometimes I think it’s difficult for beautiful girls. People don’t see past their looks." He tends to know how people feel after feeling so lonely and ostracized himself.

When we first see the 'masked man' he's been following the group around. His identity is unknown, but it's clear he's mostly interested in Alisha. He gives the others clues and helps save them. The truth is that Simon is the masked man. It becomes this whole plot line. He explains that he is still himself, but things happen to him to make him become this person. Eventually he tells her that she's the reason he does all this.

« It's you falling in love with him that makes him me. »

He didn't know why Alisha started to take an interest in him, but Simon isn't one to turn someone away. His string of girlfriends proves that with how crazy Lucy was, and the fact that the second probation worker was only using him, and he let her get so close. But Alisha is different. Reluctant at first, she starts by asking to walk with him and sharing a headset.

Another defining moment is when the public finds out about their powers. Simon doesn't agree with becoming famous, thinking its for the wrong reasons. His moral compass guides him far more than the others, wanting to do good with their powers instead. He does try to do what's right more often than not, genuinely caring about people. This sparks Alisha to mention something that future Simon had told her, something Simon had never actually said. Following her, he discovers that he was the masked man.

It's an important moment for him, because not only does Alisha explain that he's still him, just a more confident version, but he's a proper superhero. Not only does it start their relationship together, but he starts training, wanting to save people-- his friends included. When one of the former famous superhumans starts targeting them, it's up to Simon and Curtis to stop him. For Simon, when he sees Alisha laying there dead, it changes him.

No longer is he sheepish, but he knows what has to be done. He's a harder man after her death. Granted Curtis did go back and change the course of events, but in season 3, we still see a much more confident Simon. Before it seemed like his default look was shy and awkward whereas in season 3, he more looks like 'why am I putting up with these idiots?' despite his confession that being with them was the best time of his life.

Through his transformation, Simon sells his powers (being told that he should do it). Still dealing with his insecurity, he also ends up with foresight. Most of the season is then Simon devoted to training. However once again Alisha's life is in jeopardy. They've developed a close relationship by this point, accepting each other's past and flaws. But their love story isn't over.

In some ways it's a paradox, because Alisha does die. He knows he has to go back into the past then, to make her fall in love with him and restart the cycle all over. And so he does. He's completely changed at this point. Coming back into the past, he protects his friends and sets things in motion. And just like that everything repeats itself.

So ultimately he's a quiet guy who is changed by needing to go to community service, gaining powers, and meeting four other young offenders, one whom he falls in love with. He dies, and she dies, but it was worth continuing the cycle just to be loved as much as he was.

SAMPLES
» First Person Sample Choice:
( one )

I need to see Alisha. [It's panicked, but small voice. He stares into the camera, jaw tight. He doesn't care where he is, but if she's alive-- he needs to see this through.]

I need to know she's okay. [He knows where he is. He's done enough in his time waking up here, studying, reading, absorbing what he can. He can't get back, they say. But if Alisha is here, and it's a small if, he just needs to know. His look is intense, but there's a heartbroken sadness in his eyes, like he's hurt and angry, and he doesn't know what to do with it.]

If-- if anyone from the community center is here, I'd like to speak with them. If I can. I know where I am. It's called Atia, and I've got this-- [He pulls on the black necklace.] But there are things back home, important things. I need to know she...

[She loves me, he thinks.]

She's safe. I need to know she's safe.

[And then he leans in to click it off, figuring that's enough of videos for now.]

The dream came on suddenly, like a wave crashing over a beach. He could feel himself over her, the feel of her skin-- God, did he love getting to touch her. Her lips were like candy, and all he wanted was to soak more of her in. He could feel the heat between her legs, and he wanted to taste her again and again. Eyes bore into hers as he lowered himself, kissing at her legs. Going from just above the knee, Simon dips lower. He remembers the way she liked it, the way she moaned when his teeth scraped that sensitive bud or when slipped two fingers in. He was intoxicated by the way she smelled, the way she looked when she moaned like that for him.

For Simon Bellamy. He'll never get over that. He'll never get over the way she loved him or how he loved her. He was aching to press himself into her, to feel how hot she got for him, how much she needed him and craved his cock. But right now, he just wanted to be with her, to touch her. His hand goes out, fingers searching for her curves, to feel more of her, but he only returns with a fistful of bedsheets.

Sitting up suddenly, he's gasping for breath. "Alisha...," was on his tongue, half whispered. She wasn't there now, and there was no lingering scent like before. His hard on pressed against his sweats, but that was the only evidence that remained, and his bed felt all the more lonely. This wasn't the flat they had together, this wasn't the bed they shared, and his girlfriend and only person who truly loved him wasn't here. Frustrated, his head curled toward his chest, hands wrapping around his head before he stands.

He needed to get out of there. He needed to train, go to the gym, scale a building, do something. This was maddening, and no amount of sex could change that.
